I started school a couple of weeks ago. My fellow students are an intriguing variety of the human kind. Age, cultural and ethnic background, education, employment, name it. Every one of them brings something different to class. Yet I noticed a common denominator. As each one of them shares their previous experiences about classes, education, life, I come to see that they fully believe in what happened then and continue to embrace whatever information they received about themselves at that time. “ Science was always hard for me”. “I had to work for any good grade I got”. “I don’t have good coordination”. “I’m not good at marketing myself”. Failing to realize that they are not that person in that time and place anymore. Unconsciously blocking themselves from experiencing the new that is opening up right in front of them. I had to recognize that within myself. That I took others judgments and views of me as unwritten fact. If they say it then it must be true. Unaware at the time that they are only expressing how they view the world they live in, with no reference whatsoever about who and what I am. So I emptied out my memory bank of any and all derogatory and negative comments made towards me. Not only did I stop buying what people are selling, more importantly I don’t allow myself to make any negative observations about myself anymore either.
