Do you speak to me like you speak to God?

So I had another interesting client and significant other encounter today. You could tell the guy was the yes Ma’am, no Sir southerner who is trained not to show “public” disrespect. So obviously no issues regarding the interactions between him and myself. But holy mother! How he addressed his significant other blew me away every time he opened his mouth to talk to her. Hostility seeping through every word he uttered. It’s not what he said, as everyone knows, it’s how he said it. I cringed every time he spoke to her. And she just sat there and took it. Which brings me to acceptance. Acceptance of someone regardless of behavior. Valuing them because their humanity warrants it.
So I totally got that she accepted him for what he was. But in personal relationships of any sort acceptance is a two way street that goes hand in hand with respect. A sense of worth for each other. I can absolutely accept people for what they are. But if they are still on that level where they need to work out whatever it is within themselves first before they are able to honor my essence, then the distance between us will be as far away as it takes for me to be comfortable. Keep that in mind when you come into my personal space. Do you speak to me like you speak to God.
“Do you speak to me like you speak to God, all of the love and understanding between the father and the son. Do you believe in the perfectness of where you are.”
Lyrics from Aloha Ke Akua by Nahko and Medicine for the people
