Pearls before swine

What is it within all of us, that we have that sometimes incessant need to find approval or acceptance from others who have no valid reasons to be in our lives? What is it we are trying to prove and to whom? Are we trying to prove a point to ourself about our worthiness? Or are we trying to prove a point to the other about our righteousness? Either way the issue lies within us, not within the other. Once we realize that, we stop trying to define ourself through the other. And we stop allowing people to reign over us. If we encounter someone who insists on their righteousness , allow them to be. We can only meet people at the level of their own development and understanding. Obviously if we are the ones who insist on our righteousness, we ourselves have some work to do. If our constant struggle is encountering people who make us question the validity of our existence, then maybe, just maybe we should evaluate the environment we allow ourselves to be in. Realizing that sometimes we truly are throwing our pearls before swine. In figuring out what our definition of swine is, we set our personal standard. What’s acceptable to one is insufferable to the other.
