“We are what we believe we are”~ S.C. Lewis
I have been on this very personal assignment for at least two years now. Focusing on myself. If I can’t change something, accept it as is, or remove myself from it completely. Which works lovely at some times, but not at all at others.
One’s work environment for example. I have switched jobs enough to understand that some of the same issues, especially specific personalities prevail no matter where you choose to work. Everybody knows exactly what I am talking about here, no matter what type of work one does. The one I seem to encounter no matter where I choose to work, is that personality that just seems to ding-a-long all day long with zero productive output. Unless it’s something that they desire to be recognized for despite the fact that they contributed absolutely zilch to the outcome or output, they appear to fall right under the radar. Everybody gets the picture here.
It doesn’t take long to figure out the people and personalities you have to work with. I learned to mind my own business and keep specific people in my peripheral consciousness. Always aware that they are present but not allowing them to come close enough to completely disrupt my day. I employ multiple techniques besides minding my own business to make sure of that. The higher powers that be seemingly unable to eliminate specific work types from employment due to all the tricky labor laws. Nevertheless I have had my days where I had to put my” laissez-fair “ attitude down, and read people their rights about how much their non-contribution to the productivity of “our” work environment really annoys me. I haven’t had a day like this in a long time, but today was such a day.
That leads me back to the quote. Everyone is what they believe they are. Including myself. I have had enough constructive feedback in my life given to me, at times more kindly than others, that I know I can change myself. I have room to grow and room to improve. On a lot of things. Yes, I am enough. That’s not the point here. It is about holding yourself to a higher standard. On any level. Spiritually, physically, intellectually. If you walk around believing that you are a certain way, and you probably learned to accept those beliefs as your own back in your childhood; and you never give it a try to improve yourself when things are pointed out to you, then you have completely missed out on the God-given gifts inside of you.
