Where you need to be

I took a friend of mine to the airport today. Actually he was driving himself, I only had to drive the car back. He felt pressured for time, since I had other places to be as soon as I dropped him off. So here we went, weaving and bobbing through traffic. I eventually just held my head down so I wouldn’t have to keep stomping both feet down on my imaginary brakes.
Even with me telling him that I had no problem running late to wherever I had to be, the maniacal drive didn’t slow down. No. The response was that driving like this will get people moving out of the way. Ooookaaayyy then. We arrived at the airport just in the nick of his allotted time. Not a second sooner despite of his devil-may-care driving style.
I on the other hand of course missed my exit leaving the airport. I ended up driving a complete circle around it. I had to take the same route back to make it to my next destination. With the same traffic flow still in full force. I’m not an aggressive driver. I’m not even quite a defensive driver. A bit careless, but no more than that. So I drove with the flow of traffic, which was at most right at speed limit. I live in Florida, where everyone seems to be either lost or driving around Miss Daisy. You just don’t get anywhere fast in this place. And you can guess, not only did I get to where I needed to be on time, but with plenty of time to spare.
Reaffirming me that I am always exactly where I need to be. Rushing will not get me to my destiny any sooner.
