In plain sight

We have this beautiful nature trail where I live, that spans 6.5 miles through the city. When the boys where smaller, I would package them up a certain way ( not an easy task under the circumstances) and walk a good mile and a half just to get on the trail itself. Then walk the trail down to the serene playground for leisure hang out time on a weekend afternoon. I haven’t done it in a long time since the boys have gotten so much bigger.
To compensate, I began to ride the spinning cycle at the gym I was a member of, just to get some kind of activity. I’m not an exercise nazi by any means. I fall into the fluffy category. I just don’t like schlumping around. I’m like a horse that needs to be let out of the barn and run free. I remember spinning at the gym one day and telling my friend how asinine I felt, working indoors all day, then driving to the gym to sit on a stationary bike and get my activity in. When we have this beautiful trail within walking distance of my apartment.
Then circumstances changed again, as it always does with life, and I’m not a gym member anymore. No more spinning on the hamster wheel bicycle. I couldn’t come up with any creative activity to balance off the schlumping around. It makes me antsy when I don’t come off the couch enough. Anyways, I was becoming sort of restless about the situation when I finally saw it.
It’s been there the whole time. The secretly tucked away gate at the back fence of my apartment. When you open it you are in the middle of the trail. Just like that. Just wiggle your nose three times and there it is. Now I sidle out my back door, walk 50 feet and off I am on the trail. It’s a beautiful thing and I do it any chance I get. All this time of trying to come up with something, and here it was, right under my nose.
Isn’t that how life goes ;)
