Telling ourselves the Truth

We started energy work classes this week. Our instructor did a simple yet very unique demonstration on us students. She showed us easy techniques that benefit each of us to maintain our focus and contain our energy throughout the day to be more healthy.

The demonstration on the individual student included stating our name, than testing our physical strength with this statement of truth. Then stating that we are Mickey Mouse and again testing our physical strength based on that untrue statement. There were quite a few of us who maintained our physical strength with the inaccurate statement of being someone we are not. And her response was: “let’s do another test, we should all be allowed to say no.”

Meaning that the people who maintained their physical strength when speaking an un-truth were indeed believing it as they were speaking the words. Essentially lying to themselves. Get it?

I was so amazed that we in general have such a tendency to keep up a farce, maintain an image, put on a face for the public etc.

It plays out in so many ways with our interactions with each other. Being able to say that we are not okay. Not pretending to be something that we are not. It literally takes up all our energy to maintain a facade to get through the day. Being part of the pretense of being successful and good people. Just to make it through and then collapse at the end of the day into the true human form of fears, anxieties, frustrations that we were too afraid to share during the day. The ability to be vulnerable without feeling like a failure.

Only when we are able to tell ourselves the truth can we take the first step of

changing ourselves and our life into something that we do not have to cover up.
