I currently don't own a car. I haven’t for a minute. It’s not a big deal. I am very fortunate that there is always a vehicle available for me to borrow as the need arises for that type of transportation. If I never owned a car again, it wouldn’t matter to me, as long as there is some sort of transportation device available to get me from point A to point B. That’s what a car is for me.

Anyways, since I drive different cars, I have noticed an odd thing about myself. Something that has given me such a deep insight about me. As the average person usually has some sort of attachment to their car, it seems that the car itself is specifically modified to the owner of the car, or to the one who drives it the most. I’m sure you know what I mean. From the basic proper adjustments of the seat and the mirrors, to the music preset on the radio station or dvd player, to the inner decor of the car. Again, it’s not a big deal to me what the car looks or feels like as I drive it, as long as it gets me to where I need to go.

I used to just get in and literally go. Of course I would have to slide the seat one way or another to reach the pedals, but beyond that, not making much of any adjustments. The majority of the time actually making it to my goal without ever bothering to adjust the mirrors. Every blue moon I would end up in a traffic situation where it was safer to adjust the rear view and side mirrors to fit me. Call it reckless, if you want. But that’s when I had such a moment of personal insight.

I have pretty much lived my life this way. To just get up and go. Jumping in head first and simply doing it. It’s how I was designed. Giving certain situations or choices, I still do the same thing. No hesitation on my part. But driving other people’s cars has taught me one thing. I can totally take that extra time it takes to adjust everything that is designed for my safety and my comfort and make it a much more pleasurable ride. I started doing that only recently. And since it’s such a conscious effort for me to take myself out of the automatic get up and go mode when getting into a vehicle that I have to drive, I have been paying much more attention to how fast I want to proceed in other life situations.

I can totally take all the time I need to adjust everything that has been placed into my life for my safety and comfort to live my life as pleasurable as possible.
