The rain stopped. Long enough for the silence to take up the room. She had been staring out of the window, watching the big drops of rain splash onto the grass and trees, magnifying their colors. The run off from the gutters made the rain sound torrential, but it was only a mid afternoon downpour. Soon, the sun would be out again, fostering the sweltering humidity by drying up whatever rain wasn't absorbed by the vegetation. The silence caused her to focus back on the room. And its complete emptiness. There used to be a time when voices bounced off the walls. Life seemed abundant back then. Full of promises of a fertile future. It was hard for her to remember what that felt like. What a heart full of love felt like. His excuses for leaving were filled with generalized vagueness. She couldn't remember any of them. What she did remember was the fact that he didn't love her the way he said he would. Lies full of promises of an unlived life. Hers. She didn't put up a fight. Maybe he expected her to. Maybe he would have stayed for a little longer. But she didn't see the point of that. There was no use pretending that nothing had changed with his weak effort to gloss over him not loving her. She was struck by how empty the room seemed. It didn't hold the memories she thought she would cherish. The room was void before he even left. She just never saw that. She started sipping her tea. The warmth of it relaxed her stomach, easing the tension her body held as those memories flooded in. Gingerly, she focused on her breath and relaxed more. She leaned on the window frame, watching the sun change the colors of the sky. The last gray had been swept away. The sky was cloudless for now. It would be a while before more clouds would form again. She loved observing the sky. Watching the formation of cumulus clouds was her favorite part, as her imagination would run wild with the constant change in their shapes. Maybe that's why she wasn't bitter. She understood that life was all about change. The emptiness of the room was much more tolerable than a life devoid of love. It was the so-called silver lining of a low point in her life. Thankfully she realized that she would have spent years of her life with someone who didn't love her the way he said he would. It saved her from getting hooked into a life of misery. Freeing her to live out her life with people whose hearts are full of love. And she completely understood it all had to start with her own. ~•~ a beautiful milieu Image Nik https://www.instagram.com/nicoladavisonreed/
