He wanted to just leave. Walk out, walk on, with no turning back. But there was something that stopped him, as if someone's hand was on his shoulder. He drew in a deliberate breath and hesitantly turned a half turn. Enough to see her, but not enough to face her. Just in case he changed his mind. She watched him. What else was there to do. She learned a long time ago that if she wanted to hear what people needed to say, all she had to do is remain silent. She knew he wanted her to coax him. But she also knew better. Whatever needed to be unburdened, had to be released on its own accord. He turned his head a bit more, but not his body, so he could see her face better. "Do you think we met for a reason?" Of course he wanted to hear from her how special he was, how profound their relationship had been. She knew he was still searching for that. His own reason for being. She smiled. She always did when she saw him. Love will do that. Reveal itself without effort. She slightly nodded her head and replied "Yes, we met for a reason." She paused for a brief second before she continued. "Everything is for a reason...you know that." He turned completely now, so he could face her all the way. "You know what I mean.." he said. "Yes, yes I do", she replied "but either everything is for a reason, or nothing is." He swallowed softly. Maybe it was all the words that were trying to bubble up to counter-argue, that caused him to swallow. He knew it was because of her, that he finally understood that his argumentativeness was only a reflexive pattern from a life-time of fighting a reality he had a hard time coming to terms with. And for the first time since he met her, he simply nodded in agreement. ~•~ a beautiful milieu
