change outside one’s control ..it’s become something intimately familiar over the last few years. Things that are not in my control. But then, what truly is. We all know the serenity prayer by Reinhold Niebuhr. God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, Courage to change the things I can, And wisdom to know the difference. I have come to believe that the difference truly lies in that we are not in control of anything. It, whatever that it is, is done. And we get to choose how we feel about it and how we respond or interact with it. Obviously there are active versus inactive responses but I still seem to believe that the “it” that is “happening” is beyond our control. What I mean by active vs inactive responses is how much action I take upon myself to deal with any given situation vs letting the situation take care of itself. There are numerous examples, and I’m sure you have lived through thousands of them. Should I leave or should I stay? Should I say something or should I be quiet? Should I intervene or should I watch? And so on and so on. Even though we have the choice of participation, I have relaxed into a position of withholding from man handling any given situation. From my very own personal experiences, I have seen that any time I choose to man handle (control) something, “it” shows me with no uncertain clarity that it handles itself. My man handling is not required. It’s almost comical that I have gone from one extreme of the spectrum to the other. But truly it is grace that has gifted me enough time and plenty of opportunities for this beautiful growth into living. ~•~ a beautiful milieu art Heike K
